Girl Thang Productions Home

Since its 2001 beginnings, Girl Thang Productions has been striving to offer a valuable escape from the humdrum of daily reality. Offering extra-ordinary characters dealing with ordinary issues we hope to examine the absurdity of taking one’s self too seriously.
Our overall goal, is to generate more performance opportunities for women- and we encourage both men and women to write new materials requiring primarily female casts.
This past summer, Girl Thang Productions expanded it’s personal goals to include the entertainment of our shorter and more deserving friends by offering:
“Matilda in Math Land”- our first children’s production. This children’s production attempts to take a close look at gender stereotypes in educational settings and concludes with the idea that we’re all unique and that’s what makes living so wonderful.
"Matilda in Math Land" had it's first successful run at the Alcott Arts Center in June and July. And through ticket sales for this show we have raised close to $250.00 for The Friends Of Yates, a Wyadotte County Shelter for battered familes. For more information about Friends of Yates please visit their website at www.friendsofyates.org . "Matilda In Math Land" has also completed a wonderful show day at The Historic Longview Mansion in Lee's Summit, Missouri. Thank you to the staff of the mansion for their hospitality. And a special thanks to those who came out to see us, we truly appreciate your business.
"Matilda" will next be visiting college campuses as part of an educational seminar for performance theater students. And is also available for private events and birthday parties in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. Please call for information.
We also have completed our first run of our brand new sketch show for adults "Dirty Little Habits". This show takes a fun stab at many common forms of self indulgence and features rock songs as well as musical theater-esque knock offs. The fabulous list of performers included Sandy Rothberg, Lena Andrews, Jennifer Lesky-Degood, Vickie Smithson, Laurie Schwab, Marcie Ramirez, and Jeremy Lobaugh. Take a look in our photo album and check them out.
Special thanks to the Island Bar and Grill for allowing us to premier this show in August. We appreciate their open mindedness and generosity with their space.
"Dirty Little Habits" also appeared at Doc's Coffee House. Their staff was so welcoming and the atmosphere of their establishment is so creative and fun. We thank them with all of our hearts for their hard work and hope to further our relationship with them through future creative ventures. Thank you Linda and Martin!
Also, we are so grateful for both our new and old patrons. Thanks to everyone who came to see the shows. We'd be nothing without your laughter and support.
This past autumn and winter we have been on a sort of public performance hiatus, but just because you don't see us doesn't mean we're not active. We're pleased to say that our children's show is in the process of publication and is being shopped by children's theaters both locally and across the nation. And we're working on writing our next children's feature with a pre-performance title of "Amelia Has Asthma". The new show focuses on the challenge of living with a health issue.
Also, many of our performers are active elsewhere in the Kansas City art community. This year you might have enjoyed the performance of one or more of them. Together, outside of Girl Thang Productions, we've accumulated a total of sixty-five different productions this year.
